About the School

More than a martial art.

World Taekwondo Mandeville is Manchester Parish's affiliated home of Olympic-standard taekwondo. Operating under World Taekwondo Jamaica and recognised by the Kukkiwon, we take students from their first class through to national competition.

Our dojang at 40 Manchester Road is built on five tenets passed down through generations of instruction. Head Instructor Master Kenroy Clarke holds WT Level 2 Kyorugi Coaching and Para-Taekwondo Coach Level 1 certification.

History of Taekwondo

Born from Korea.

Taekwondo — "the way of the foot and fist" (태권도) — carries roots over 2,000 years deep. It was systematised in the 20th century as Korea unified its regional martial arts into a single national discipline, and has been a full Olympic sport since Sydney 2000.

"Taekwondo is not a mere physical fighting skill; it is a discipline that trains both the body and mind." — General Choi Hong Hi, founding figure of modern taekwondo
